PSAT/NMSQT (The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test)

This test measures the critical reading, math problem solving and writing skills. It provides:

1. Practice for the SAT Reasoning Test,

2. Feedback on your strengths and weaknesses for college study skills,

3. A chance to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Corporation scholarship programs,

4. Information from colleges when you check yes to the Student Search Service.

EHS Juniors who are on track with their A-G requirements, will take the PSAT/NMSQT in October.

The SAT Reasoning Test (formerly Scholastic Aptitude Test and Scholastic Assessment Test ) is a measure of the critical thinking skills needed for academic success in college. It assesses how well you analyze and solve problems. Each section of the SAT is scored on a scale of 200-800, and the writing section will contain two sub-scores. The SAT is typically taken by high school juniors and seniors.

Create an Online Account

1. Go to the College Board website

2. Click on Register for the SAT.

3. Click on Register Now to choose a User Name and Password.

4. Continue using the same account throughout your college selection process.

Register for the SAT

1. Use your online College Board account to register for the SAT Reasoning Test or SAT Subject Tests.

2. Choose which test, what date, and which test center you want.

3. Select colleges to receive your score reports (the first four reports are FREE).

The ACT is America's most widely accepted college entrance exam. The University of California (UC) and the California State University (CSU) accept ACT or SAT interchangeably. 

The ACT assesses high school students' general educational development and their ability to complete college level work. The multiple choice tests cover four skill areas: English, mathematics, reading and science. The Writing Test, measures skill in planning and writing a short essay. Results are sent to your high school and to institutions you designate. Check with your Counselor to see if you qualify for a fee waiver.

Test dates are Saturdays and you must register online at the ACT website.
