Newport-Mesa Announces Laura Sosa as Principal of Killybrooke Elementary

Killybrooke Principal Dr. Lorie Hoggard has transitioned to temporarily serve in a full-time capacity as Principal on Special Assignment to develop and implement District summer programming.

During this time, Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD) announced the selection of Ms. Laura Sosa to serve as principal of Killybrooke Elementary School. 

Ms. Sosa taught both primary and upper grades prior to serving the community in Alta Loma School District as an assistant principal. As a classroom teacher, Ms. Sosa partnered with parents to support student learning and healthy development in school and at home. She adapted teaching methods and materials to meet students’ varying learning styles. 

As an assistant principal, she monitored English language learners, oversaw the literacy intervention program, implemented a Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports structure, facilitated the site student attendance review team, and coached new teachers. Ms. Sosa also provided districtwide professional development and support to teachers with differentiated instruction to meet the needs of students. 

She is known to be a collaborative leader, problem solver, and someone who excels at building relationships, and fostering a positive school culture.

Ms. Sosa obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies from California State University, San Bernardino, Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education (K-6) from Western Governors University, and her Preliminary Administrative Services and Multiple Subject Teaching credentials from University of La Verne.
