Lyceum Academy

3rd Quarter Newsletter!

The Countdown is ON!

In a little over 103 Days the Lyceum Academy students will sit for their FIRST AP Examination. The AP Human Geography exam is 2 hours and 15 minutes long and has two sections--multiple choice and free response. Each section of the exam is equal to 50% of their final score. All AP Exams are scored on a range of 1-5. An Exam score of 3-5 is considered "Passing" by College Board standards. The cost of each exam for Estancia High School students will be presented to us this week and "fee reductions" may be available for those who are be eligible.

MUCH more information will be delivered as we learn it. In the meantime, it is a great idea--maybe even an integral step towards passing--to purchase (new or used) or borrow a Test Prep books. Please see, call, or email Mr. Horton for more information at nhorton@nmusd.us

Welcome, Mr. Horton!

The Lyceum Academy at Estancia High School would like to welcome Nathan Horton as both AP Human Geography teacher and coordinator. Mr. Horton brings to Estancia 10 years of teaching experience—most recently, for the last 5 years at Fairmont Preparatory Academy in Anaheim.

Mr. Horton received his BA in History from CSU, Chico and his MA in American Studies from CSU, Fullerton. From 2006-2008 Mr. Horton was a Peace Corps volunteer in Kyrgyzstan. He and his wife, Heather, have two boys, Lennon (6) and Elliott (3). The four of them love to travel, read, cook, play, and create.

Working alongside parents, faculty, Lyceum Academy’s counselor, Ms. Smith, and Estancia High School Administration, Mr. Horton will focus on his students as learners and work tirelessly to get to know them as such, and more. With connections across the country, Mr. Horton hopes to make the Lyceum Academy a program that sends students far and wide in pursuit of the joy of learning in higher education and beyond.

He can be reached at nhorton@nmusd.us with any questions or comments.
